How on earth could they trade Odell Beckham Jr.? How could they take a running back over a quarterback at the top of last year’s draft? Does this team even have any sort of plan? How could they possibly if they are rebuilding with a 38-year-old quarterback that is clearly a declining player?Well folks, first off, this isn’t a Giants fluff piece. But New York has accomplished something pretty impressive … and extremely important. This front office, namely GM Dave Gettleman, has built a great nest. A nest? Yes, a very comfortable and well-protected nest for a young quarterback to land, learn to fly and grow. Wouldn’t such a nest be better off with one of the NFL’s truly elite wide receivers? Possibly. But it also might be better off without such a huge personality involved in the young quarterback’s maturation process. It also conceivably could be better off without that huge accompanying contract or the need to force-feed one singular pass catcher. Who is to say for sure if having Beckham, his persona and his contract in the fold would be better for the Giants’ next franchise quarterback or if it would be better to have him out of the building during this maturation process in exchange for valuable draft and salary cap equity. But what can’t be argued is that the ability to distribute the ball to Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram, the recently extended Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate is a very friendly situation for a highly-touted quarterback just entering the league. All four of those weapons are very quarterback-friendly stylistically, often with quick-hitting routes. Also, the ability to turn around and put the football in Barkley’s belly is also something all young (and old) NFL signal callers will be envious of. It takes a village to raise a quarterback, folks. There are two other key aspects of this village: Manning and a quickly improving offensive line. Unlike Beckham, there is no questioning that being around Manning in close quarters is a tremendous influence on a developing quarterback. Manning can hold down the fort until the youngster is ready Wayne Gallman Jerseys 2019 , but more importantly, watching Manning operate as a true professional with a great head for the position will be an amazing asset. As for the offensive line, ask Josh Rosen how important it is to at least have competency up front. Now, the Giants line is far from perfect. Quarterback aside, this should be a very heavy defensive draft for New York, but they also could add a premium young offensive lineman as well. The Giants might have overpaid for Nate Solder, but with Solder, Will Hernandez and now Kevin Zeitler, this line now has three foundational players. That is something many teams out there can’t say right now in an offensive linemen starved league and New York now has one of the best guard pairings in the NFL.Of all the teams in the league that might be poised to draft their next franchise quarterback, the Giants might be the best landing spot for future success. That is a gigantic thing that this organization has going for it right now. This isn’t to speculate who that quarterback might be. Maybe it will be Rosen or more likely, New York will draft a quarterback early on. This is the year to make that addition rather than wait another year. The nest has been built and built very well. We are thrilled to have him joining the team here at Big Blue View. The New York Giants are getting ready for a Monday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers. The Giants, at 1-7, are at the midpoint of their season. With that in mind, let’s hand out some midseason “Kudos & Wet Willies.”This isn’t going to be long. We have talked at length in many ways about the avalanche of bad and the tiny slivers of good this season. So White Sterling Shepard Jerseys , I’m not going in-depth on anything here. This is just a high-level hit.As usual, I’m sure you will let me know what you agree or disagree with.QuarterbackEli Manning has Odell Beckham Jr. and Saquon Barkley at his disposal. Yet, he has only eight touchdown passes in eight games and leads an offense scoring only 18.8 points per game, much of it in garbage time. The offensive line is terrible and that’s a major part of it, but he hasn’t been good enough. Wet Willie.Kyle Lauletta gets a “Wet Willie” simply for the bad judgment he showed in getting arrested last week, perhaps delaying his chance to play.Running backUmm … gee, Saquon Barkley, on a historic pace for a rookie, gets “Kudos.” Jonathan Stewart gets a “Kudos” and a “Wet Willie.” He gets “Kudos” for somehow bamboozling the Giants out of $3.45 million. He gets a “Wet Willie” for lasting six carries (and gaining 17 yards) before landing on IR.Tight endA receiving tight end who can’t catch? You know the grade for Evan Engram. Wet Willie.Offensive linePutrid. The only bright spot has, at times, been rookie Will Hernandez. Wet Willie. Wide receiverWhen it comes to Odell Beckham Jr., we’re keeping this to his work on the field. He has 61 catches, on pace for 122, which would shatter Steve Smith’s franchise record of 107. He is on pace for 1,570 receiving yards Sterling Shepard Jerseys 2019 , which would break his own franchise record. Kudos.Sterling Shepard is on pace for his first 1,000-yard season and could set career highs in yardage, receptions and yards per catch. Kudos.Defensive lineDamon Harrison is gone, but it’s hard to complain about the work that B.J., Dalvin Tomlinson and Kerry Wynn have done. “Kudos” to that trio.EdgeOlivier Vernon has played only three games but is tied for the team lead with 10 pressures. Kudos.Lorenzo Carter is showing potential, but I’m not sure exactly how to grade him. Kwillie.Free-agent acquisitions Kareem Martin and Connor Barwin have given the Giants very little. Wet Willies.Inside linebackerSome good, some bad for both B.J. Goodson and Alec Ogletree. Kwillies.Ray-Ray Armstrong is gone and Tae Davis has yet to really play enough to get a grade.CornerbackB.W. Webb has been a good find for the Giants. Kudos.Janoris Jenkins? He is the league’s 121st ranked corner, per Pro Football Focus, playing far below the level of his $62 million contract. Wet Willie.SafetyLandon Collins hasn’t made any real game-changing plays, but otherwise has been his typical self. Kudos.Curtis Riley? The Giants need to go back to the drawing board at free safety. Wet Willie.Special teamsPlacekicker Aldrick Rosas has been excellent, 17-of-18 in field goals (94.9 percent) with his only miss coming from beyond 50 yarrs. Punter Riley Dixon has been solid. “Kudos” to both.A “Wet Willie” to every return man the Giants have used this season not named Quadree Henderson or Jawill Davis.
